Electrical Audio is a two-studio complex located in Chicago,
Illinois and owned by Steve Albini.
You can take a
closer look at the studios.
We are also in the process of putting all of our
equipment
up for you to look at and read about.
If you want to read about the people that work here or people
who worked here in the past, you can do that over in the Staff & Friends
section.
If you are interested in recording here and want to know how
much it might cost you or your band, you can find that out over
in the Booking &
Rates section.
Take a look at our forums for
discussions about recording, microphones, drum tuning and all
sorts of other things.
And finally, if you need to contact us or you need directions to
the studio, you can find that information here.

Active version of the Royer R121. Internal phantom-powered head amplifier/buffer gives higher output and makes this more useful on quiet sound sources like acoustic string instruments, piano, voice. Conventional "passive" ribbon mics can be "tuned" by varying the load impedance the mic sees (the input impedance of the mic preamp), varying the sound quality by choosing different preamps. This mic does not exhipit this trait, as it is isolated by its buffer amplifier. This can be either good or bad, depending on your expectation.
